# Stedi - How do I link my account?

## Overview

To authenticate with Stedi, you need:

1. **API Key** — a key created in your Stedi account, scoped as either Test or Production.

This guide will walk you through creating your API key in Stedi.

### Prerequisites

* A [Stedi account](https://portal.stedi.com/app).

### Step 1: Creating an API key

1. Log in to your [Stedi account](https://portal.stedi.com/app).
2. Click **API keys** in the side navigation.
3. Click **+ Generate new API Key**.
4. Enter a descriptive name for the key.
5. Choose **Test** or **Production** as the **Mode**. Test keys return mock responses for eligibility checks and most claims endpoints; Production keys send real transactions to payers.
6. Click **Generate**, then copy the key immediately — Stedi won't show it again once you close the dialog.

### Step 2: Enter your API key in the Connect UI

Once you have your API key:

1. Open the form where you need to authenticate with Stedi.
2. Enter your **API Key** in the designated field.
3. Submit the form, and you should be successfully authenticated.
